ECW comes to us live from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota as Joey Styles and Tazz welcome us to the show. We head to the ring where William Regal is acting general manager in place of the indisposed Paul Heyman following the events of last week's events with the Big Show. Regal says he will address The Big Show situation later on tonight.
Regal says he has a few match announcements for tonight's show. Regarding the fracas that followed last week's opening contest between The Colony and The Unholy Alliance, Regal says tonight the issues will be settled inside a 15-FOOT HIGH STEEL CAGE.
Regal acknowledges the Extreme Rules PPV this Sunday and wants to make sure that the participants in the Tag Team Turmoil Match are tuned-up and prepared, so after striking deals with Jim Cornette and Theodore Long, individual participants from select teams will compete in one-on-one contests tonight.
Regal says there will also be three more qualifying matches tonight to determine who will vie for the final spot in the Singapore Cane Match for the ECW Championship at Extreme Rules. Before Regal can continue, he is cut off by James Mitchell and the Unholy Alliance. Mitchell demands an answer for why his crew is being subjected to this tonight when The Colony poses no threat. Regal explains that The Colony will not stand down and refuse to be intimidated, so they'll receive their shot tonight.
Before Mitchell can speak up, The Colony hits the stage and Soldier Ant grabs a mic, telling Father James that they and the rest of the ECW Locker Room refuse to let the Unholy Alliance run the show into the ground. Mitchell looks pissed as we go to commercial.
Back from break and we get a video package, demonstrating how each team qualified for Tag Team Turmoil. Back in the arena as LAX makes their way to the ring. Homicide will represent his team in the following contest. Out next are the Colons from Monday Night RAW, who just qualified last night. Carlito is in his ring gear and spoiling for a fight as the bell rings and this match gets under way.
CARLITO def. HOMICIDE
A very entertaining opening contest with great chain action. Homicide tries to sneak the win early with a Bronx Bomber 27, but only collected a 2 count. Carlito countered later with a flapjack but only picked up a two count himself. Finish came as Carlito countered a Gringo Killer into the Backstabber for the duke.
After the match, The Colons celebrate in the ring and Hernandez jumps into the ring and tries to set Primo up for a Border Toss, but Primo escapes and nails SuperMex with a Backstabber, Epico follows up with a Codebreaker and Carlito hits a Phoenix Splash from the top rope to leave LAX lying in the ring.
We get a teaser promo for Ryback in action NEXT as we go to break.
Back from break as The Mexicools head to the ring on their Juan Deeres prepared for a 3-on-1 Handicap Match. The Cyborg marches to the ring and here we go.
RYBACK def. THE MEXICOOLS
Ryback locks into a staredown, then throws a Big Boot that nearly knocks Super Crazy’s block off. Ryback follows up with a devastating Clothesline to Psicosis and Irish Whips Juventud clear over the top rope, sending him crashing into the barricade. Ryback throws all three to the corner and drills them with a Body Avalanche, watching as all four crumble to the canvas. Ryback lifts ALL THREE up and plants them with Shell Shocked for another impressive victory.
After the match, William Regal congratulates Ryback on becoming the next to qualify for the pre-show, and informs him that since he doesn’t seem to have a problem with taking on three men at once, it should be no problem for him to run the gauntlet Sunday at Extreme Rules. Ryback will now face all three potential opponents in succession. If Ryback succeeds, he’ll earn the final spot in the ECW Championship Match. If someone collects the bounty, and defeats Ryback, The winning fall will earn the final spot. Regal says he had no choice but to give in to Show’s demands last week, so The Big Show will also be in for this pre-show qualifier.
Backstage with the New Age Outlaws. Billy Gunn is getting ready for action as we head to break.
Back from break and we get more hype for the Singapore Cane Match this Sunday. Who will leave Chicago as the ECW Champion?
Back to the ring as Billy Gunn heads to the ring for his match, completely clueless as to who is his opponent. Howling Wolves rain down from the rafters as The American Wolves make their way to the ring. Eddie Edwards is in streets, so Davey Richards is up.
DAVEY RICHARDS def. BILLY GUNN
On paper, this appears to be a considerable mismatch. Billy Gunn CLEARLY has the size advantage. But Davey Richards quickly demonstrates that the smaller guys tend to hit harder. Richards lights Gunn up in the early minutes with a flurry of STIFF kicks. Gunn manages to regain control, mount an offensive and connect with the One and Only but only gets a two count. Gunn goes for the Fame-Asser when Richards dodges and throws another stiff quick kick to Gunn’s hamstring. With Gunn hobbling around the ring, Davey takes him down with a Russian Leg Sweep and locks Billy into a Cloverleaf for the submission victory.
William Regal is back in Heyman’s office, discussing matters of the qualifying matches tonight over the phone and touches on an idea for a second main event tonight. Regal knows that the opponents in Sunday’s PPV want nothing more than to get at each other tonight, so he’s going to make it happen. Tonight, we’ll get a preview of the ECW Title Match, The Stairway To Hell Match and...THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH. Regal has invited two men who got their start in ECW back to the land of Extreme tonight. It will be Kane, The Sandman, The Big Show and RAW’s CHRIS JERICHO versus ECW Champion John Morrison, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu and RAW’s CM PUNK.
We get another teaser for the Steel Cage Match as we go to commercial.
Back from break as Hardcore Holly heads out to the ring for his qualifier.
ELIJAH BURKE def. HARDCORE HOLLY
Good back-and-forth physical contest. Holly attempted an Alabama Slam that Burke countered by grabbing the top rope. Burke fights out and hits his 4-Up Combo. The Silver-Tongued Pugilist followed with an Elijah Express and an Outer Limitz Elbow but still only collected two. Finish came as Holly went for a Pumphandle Slam and Burke rolled through to deliver The Elijah Experience for the three. Burke will now join Ryback and The Big Show in the Pre-Show Gauntlet match.
We head to the back and THE HART DYNASTY is here from Smackdown. The trio heads to the ring as the Final Tag Team Turmoil preview of the evening is up next and we go to break.
Back from commercial as David Hart Smith warms up in the ring for the next contest. As The Baby Bulldog awaits his opponent, bombs descend and “BOMBSHELL” rings through the speakers as The Dudleyz head to the ring. Bubba and D’Von play a little psychological warfare with the Dynasty, leaving DH in suspense as to who his opponent for the evening is before Bubba Ray finally steps forward. Bubba grabs a mic and says that he has a secret weapon tonight to neutralize any potential interference from Natalya as one of her opponents on Sunday, LITA heads to the ring.
DAVID HART SMITH def. BUBBA RAY DUDLEY
A very hard-hitting seesaw battle. Both men utilized the power game very effectively. Finish came as Bubba went to the top for a Diving Senton, only to have Tyson Kidd knock him from his perch. As D’Von chased Kidd to the back, Smith picked up Bubba, planted him with a Running Powerslam that would have made Dad proud and picked up the three.
After the match, Lita injected herself into the festivities by making a run at Natalya and a catfight ensues. The fists start flying in this slugfest until KHARMA’s music hits and the most dominant diva in WWE History begins her ominous march to the ring. Lita wastes no time going after Kharma with a Diving Cross Body from the top rope, but Kharma captures her mid-leap and tosses her like a rag doll, sending her careening into the ring post. Kharma hits the ring and Natalya tries to mount an offensive, but it’s a fruitless attempt. Kharma takes Natalya out AGAIN with a spinning backfist and finishes her off with an Implant Buster.
Lita has found her second wind by this point and attempts a top-rope hurricanrana, but once again, Kharma captures her and folds her in half with an Awesome Bomb. Kharma assesses the carnage and breaks into a fit of maniacal laughter. Can ANYONE stop Kharma from becoming the next Women’s Champion?
Backstage with James Mitchell and The Unholy Alliance discussing strategy as we head to break.
Back from break and we get the WWE Rewind, with Balls Mahoney’s victory and subsequent beatdown at the expense, and at the hands of Jack Swagger two weeks ago.
JACK SWAGGER def. RHYNO
Another solid physical match, Swagger owned the early going with his amateur background and physical takedowns. Rhyno worked his way back into the contest after blocking a Swagger Bomb with his knees and nailing a Rhyno Driver for TWO. Rhyno backs into the corner to deliver the GORE, but in a last-second heads-up maneuver, Swagger goes low and clips Rhyno’s ankle out from under him. Swagger locks on the Ankle Lock and refuses to let go. Rhyno succumbs and Swagger qualifies for the pre-show match that now includes the likes of The Big Show and Ryback.
Swagger keeps the Ankle Lock on as long as possible, even drawing in officials to try and break the hold, releasing only as the ref threatened to reverse the decision. It will now be Ryback running the Gauntlet against Elijah Burke, Jack Swagger and THE BIG SHOW with the winning fall earning the final spot in the Singapore Cane Match.
We see the Cage being lowered as The Unholy Alliance versus The Colony is up Next! We go to break.
Back from commercial and Styles and Tazz give us a video package of what has transpired in prior weeks between The Colony and The Unholy Alliance. We go to the ring and Bob Artese introduces the Main Event. The Colony marches out as Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, Worker Ant and Green Ant head to the ring. Out next is James Mitchell with Abyss, Mikey Whipwreck and Kevin Thorn. Mitchell explains that Tajiri has a Cruiserweight Championship match to focus on for Sunday, and will not be competing tonight, but the Alliance has a new apostle and out comes RELLIK. The Alliance rushes the cage and here we go.
THE UNHOLY ALLIANCE def. THE COLONY
As Mitchell had predicted, The Colony really posed no threat. Bloodied and battered from bell to bell, The Colony bounced off the cage walls like ping pong balls left and right. Finish came as the Alliance hit their respective finishers; Abyss with Shock Treatment and a Black Hole Slam on Fire Ant, Kevin Thorn with a Dark Kiss and a Crucifix Bomb on Worker Ant, Whipwreck with a Whippersnapper on Green Ant and Rellik put Soldier Ant away with a Demon Driver.
All four exit the cage to celebrate the victory. As they head up the ramp, the lights go out in the arena. As they come back up, VAMPIRO stands at the top of the ramp with James Mitchell held hostage. The Alliance threatens to take him back, but Vampiro flees to the parking lot with the foursome giving chase. Abyss and company reach the parking lot, just in time to find Vampiro stuffing Mitchell into the back seat of his car and peels out of the arena with the Sinister Minister in tow. The Alliance is beside themselves, raging, flipping out and taking their aggression out on various inanimate objects backstage as we go back to break.
Back from break and we get a rundown of the PPV card before the main event heads to the ring.
CHRIS JERICHO, KANE, THE SANDMAN and THE BIG SHOW def. CM PUNK, SABU, TOMMY DREAMER and JOHN MORRISON
It didn’t take long for this match to disintegrate into total chaos. Dreamer and Sandman evacuated the match, beating each other senseless up the entrance ramp with Kendo Sticks. Show, Sabu and Morrison brawl at ringside, leaving Punk in the ring with Kane. Unaware that the Big Red Monster was NOT the legal man, Punk sets up for the GTS. Jericho slides into the ring and drops him with a Codebreaker before Punk can connect. Y2J rushes to the cover and picks up the win. Jericho has CLEARLY established momentum heading into the World Title match at Extreme Rules.
After the match, the chaos continues. William Regal rushes down to restore order as Big Show is punching people out just for the fun of it. Show first knocks out Sabu, then Punk, then Morrison, Kane and Jericho. Show is on a frenzy and as Regal tries to break things up, Show plants WMD on Regal by mistake. Regal collapses to the mat as Show has leveled his second authority figure in as many weeks.
Bodies are lying everywhere as Big Show heads up the ramp, where Dreamer and Sandman have apparently forgotten that a match was happening, and are still swinging Kendo sticks at each other. Big Show examines the fray, then proceeds to lay out both Dreamer and Sandman on the ramp. The World’s Largest Athlete is in the drivers’ seat, perhaps not only in the pre-show, but as a favorite to walk from Chicago as the ECW Champion as ECW goes off the air.
